Field test by KVK Scientist

Modified Rice Drum Seeder

Technical Feasibility

The TNAU Maharasi drum seeder is found to be suitable for puddled fields which needs at least four to six days for bringing the field to fine tilth. The locality where the applicant resides is Cauvery delta zone wherein the turn system has been followed. The farmers have to complete sowing on receipt of canal water. Hence they are forced to go for preparation of land under dry condition and irrigate the water on receipt. Next day, they sow the seeds which could withstand till next turn of water comes. For such seeding TNAU Maharasi drum seeder is not suitable because the wheels will get struck in undulations, but the Elangesh modified drum seeder will be suited. The spacing between rows in TNAU drum seeder is 20 X 20 cms which could not accommodate power weeder. If power weeder is used between rows, the rice plants will be trampled. This is overcome in Elangesh drum seeder. Further, the clay carried by the wheels of of TNAU drum seeder often gained entry into the holes of drums at two extreme ends which obstructs the flow of seeds on the ground. Since the TNAU drum seeder is made of plastic, the possibility of the breaking of drums by labourers is more and hence durability is another problem which the farmers have been facing with. The above two limitations are ruled out in the modified drum seeder

Field test by KVK, Thiruvarur

Demo-District Farm Innovators meet

  Technical Feasibility

The basic principles like pheromones, attraction by insects by UV Light are well established principles. Electronic grids are used in households to electrocute mosquitoes. He has integrated these established principles to trap and eliminate pests at field level.

  Economic Benefits of the innovation

Lesser spraying of harmful and costly insecticides. Better crop yield. Quality farm produce
